Real Estate During the Holidays (and I share a recipe!)

I have been working with a handful of buyers lately, as I grow my own real estate brokerage. And it is always interesting to see how the dynamic shifts during the holiday season. Everything becomes crickets. But my buyers are still actively looking. All the while trying to get into the holiday spirit.

From everything that I have researched about real estate during the holidays, is that, generally speaking, things slow down. I am definitely seeing that to be true. This time of year sellers are debating whether to take their home off the market for the winter, as most people do not want to move, let alone go out side this time of year. Unless you love winter sports or just the sparkly sunny snow (this is me until about mid-March when I want to skip out on mud season), winter can be a hard season. Its usually not the best time to be moving all of your household belongings from place to place.

But back to the holiday season specifically...with sellers antsy about going into winter, buyers could have a little advantage right now. With the market turning slow during the holidays, it can give buyers less competition when putting in an offer on a home. And sellers are potentially more willing to negotiate as we are headed into the long winter months.

Taking a quick turn to discuss sellers. If you haven't listed your home yet but want to, listing during the holiday season can ad a sparkle of excitement to the buyers that are actively looking during this slower time. And with still lower than usually inventory on the market, your home is likely to sell quickly and to a serious buyer.

But as noted above, there are things to consider when going into the winter months for real estate. No one should buy or sell unless they are ready and able to, regardless of season. Reach out to your trusted real estate professional to go over the home buying and selling process to learn more about the real estate process as it relates to you specifically.

Also, I wanted to share a recipe that I LOVE this time of year. I hope you love it too. It originates after pie making for Thanksgiving, and then anytime we have extra dough, we make these. Grandparent inspired :) I typically make mine with cinnamon and maple syrup.
